Kim Hyun Joong: The Most Popular Star in China

SS501's leader and actor Kim Hyun-joong has literally shot Sky High.

According to a survey on a Chinese portal site (http://www.vdfly.com), Kim Hyun-joong ranked first in 'the most effective Asian star'. He received 3068 (19.2%) votes. This seems to be because of the MBC drama "Naughty Kiss" which currently started broadcasting in China. Kim Hyun-joong played lead role for the first time in this drama. He was already popular being in the group ss501 but not enough to be in the first place. It proves hallyu dramas still affect China greatly.

Even the ranking from 2~10 shows how strong the popularity of drama actors or idols is. Song Seung-heon from "My Princess" got 1684 (10.5%) votes in second place, and third place was Girl's Generation Yoona with 1259 (7.9%) votes for "You Are My Destiny".

In 4th place came Rain (1190 votes, 7.4%), 5th TVXQ U-Know (1148 votes 7.2%), 6th Park Shin-hye (991 votes 6,2%), 7th Lee Seung-gi (682 votes 4.3%), 8th Superjunior Kim Hee-cheol 600 votes 3.7%), 9th Kim Jeong-hoon (529 votes 3.3%) and 10th Moon Geun-yeong (291 votes 2.5%).

This survey was carried out on a basis of a group of sample surveys that were carried out in representative Chinese portal sites like Sohu, Baidu, Google, Sina.com and more.

Kim Hyun Joong's Solo Album to be Released on May

'It's Kim Hyun-joong's turn'


Kim Hyun-joong of ss501 has finally started on his solo album after a long await of his solo debut.


According to Kim Hyun-joong, this coming May, he will officially act as a solo singer. He focused on his acting last year in the drama "Playful Kiss". This will be the first time he will show himself as a solo singer besides his part in the group ss501.


According to his company Key East Entertainment, he is currently choosing out the most significant songs out of about a 100 of them. He has also chosen to release an official album instead of the relatively risky digital or mini album. Kim Hyun-joong's idea of his solo album is very sincere.


A spokesperson explained he is finishing up the last of his album and as much as this is the first time as a solo singer, he will show off ballads, dance and many different songs.


Kim Hyeon-joons solo act will be the forth of the members from the group ss501, after Park Jung-min with "Not Alone", Heo Yeong-saeng who debuts solo this end of the month, and Kim Hyung-joon who signed up with Japanese Avex and will debut this coming march.


So besides Kim Gyoo-jong, who will be stepping forward as an actor, all the members from ss501 will perform as solo singers.

As the special versions (episodes) of 'Naughty Kiss' is broadcasted via YouTube, many people around the world are going crazy (in a positive way).

CNN's main anchor, Anna Coren will interview Kim Hyun-joong, 'Naughty Kiss' production company's CEO Song Byeong-joon, and Google Korea Seo Hwang-wook on 7th.

The effect from Kim Hyun Joong? Mischievous Kiss is the most anticipated #1 TV series in Japan in the second half year.

Japanese portal site has recently conducted a survey for the most anticipated Korean drama in the next second half year. Out of the votes from 99346 participants, Mischievous Kiss won the 1st place with 68.9%（68467 votes). TVXQ Micky Yoo Chun who started in KBS2TV SungKyunKwan Scandal had gathered a total of 30512 votes (30.7%) and took the 2nd place and Runaway as #3.

Mischievous Kiss broke a record of 27 millions records as Japan’s best-selling comic book. Taiwan version of Mischievous Kiss drama had also set a high rating record and in Japan, it was transformed into an anime and had garnered lots of attention.

In this upcoming drama, Hyun Joong will play as the main character Baek Seung Jo. He will act as a character whereby he doesn’t willing to do anything and reluctant to express his feeling. The female lead will be played by Jung So min who will be acting as a character whereby her studies is not so good yet is a positive and optimistic girl who admire Baek Seung Jo.

Kim Hyun Joong donates 1 million pesos

SS501’s front man Kim Hyun Joong along with BEASTrecently visited the Philippines for the K-Pop meets P-Popconcert which is for the benefit of young mothers.

During the trip, Kim Hyun Joong visited the Abierta’s House of Friendship and was awarded a special plaque of appreciation because of his special donation of 1,000,000 Philippine pesos (around $22,000). Here’s the rundown courtesy of My Cozy Li’l Corner and LOVEKIMHYUNJOONG.com:

Other than attending the fan meeting on 18th June and the charity concert on 19th June, there was actually yet another important item on Kim Hyun Joong’s schedule in Manila, Philippines trip from 17th to 20th June, that is to receive the appreciation plaque from Abiertas House of Friendship – the charity organization that is the beneficiary of the concert- and also to visit the children from this organization/school. The organization had prepared it in thanks of his personal contribution of 1,000,000 pesos (approx Chinese yuan 150,000 or USD 22,000).

Kim Hyun Joong has already visited the actual site of Abiertas House of Friendship earlier this year. After seeing the condition of the school and the state that the children were in, he immediately decided to make a personal contribution of 1,000,000 pesos and this amount was transferred sometime in mid May.

The organization had immediately utilized his donation towards building the property for their senior high/college students. In addition, the organization will also name the said property after Kim Hyun Joong.

Further, Kim Hyun Joong had also agreed to participate in the charity concert held on 19th June, in the hope that his influence could raise more awareness and garner more support and help for these less privileged groups in the society, the helpless mothers and children.

The “Araneta Coliseum” that you see on the plaque is the name of the stadium where the charity concert was held. The original plan was to present this to Kim Hyun Joong at the stadium during the concert. So the organization just presented him with their token of appreciation in the tiny conference room on their premises~~~~~

SS501’s leader Kim Hyun Joong will still be going to Spain. However he’s going there for a photo shooting session.

Kim Hyun Joong will be going to Madrid, Spain for a series of photo shooting for a fashion magazine. He is expected to stay in Spain for a week for the photo shoot, meanwhile using this trip to travel around Madrid as well.

On 1st April 2010, Kim Hyun Joong posted a message on his official homepage that he intend to study aboard in Spain and depart on 7th April. In the end of his message, he wrote “Today is April Fool’s Day, right?”. It’s simply just a joke that he cracked, however fans still feel uneasy as there have been rumors since last year that Kim Hyun Joong may go solo.

Kim Hyun Joong’s company DSP Entertainment representative expressed on 5th April that this photo shoot trip has been confirmed since one month ago. He continued: “It’s was just a joke that Kim Hyun Joong cracked.”

The representative added: “After Kim Hyun Joong finish his Spain photo shoot trip, he will continue his schedule to record the new album on 1st May and participate in the promotional activities in Japan and China. He just want to de-stress himself before starting his busy schedule.”

Kim Hyun-joong's favorite musician. The first record Kim ever bought was Seo Taeji & Boys' second album. Kim had enjoyed his studies so much up till elementary school that he would wake up at 6 A.M. everyday to study but after listening to Seo Tae-ji's music, he gave up on his studies to become a bassist in a rock band. He will also nonchalantly talk about his past girlfriends on talkshows and does not mind too much about what others think.
