Kim Hyun Joong to further his studies in America

The newly minted Hallyu icon mentioned in a recent interview his intentions of going to the US. With regards to concrete details, Kim Hyun Joong is still in talks with DSP Entertainment but he has said that the company has given a green light. He is set to leave Korea for 6 months by summer, at the earliest.
While still tackling a packed BOF schedule and oncoming SS501 activities, the singer-actor has expressed hopes of returning to K-pop with a bang. Also harboring a 2-year dream to learn English, it was therefore feasible and timely to take a step overseas. In his time in the US, he will train under dance instructors to the stars - like Justin Timberlake and Usher - and juggle singing/vocal classes on the side.
Kim Hyun Joong’s had is heart set on this for years and has even said that he would go ahead as planned, at the expense of having to do round-a-bout trips to fulfill his SS501 schedules. These include the group’s Asia tour concerts starting in July.
Maybe at the end of his study trip we’ll hear less of that annoying “This is more than the present…” intro to their songs. And with his rising popularity, a tip in the scales of K-pop’s most favorable boybands?
In other KHJ news, it was reported that the hardworking star has also shown a filial side by splurging his recent paychecks on cosmetics for his mum. For fear of her stressful life as an apparel shop owner at the Dongdaemun market giving her wrinkles, he showered her with beauty products. Mrs Kim said in an interview that as he gave them to her, tears were welling up in his eyes.
Taken from the words of his Ssangchu half, maybe KHJ isn’t that type B of a person with an expressionless life after all.

Kim Hyun Joong experiences setbacks

Following his fender bender, KBS’s “Boys before Flowers” star and SS501 leader, Kim Hyun-joong has complained of lower back pain but delayed treatment due to his busy schedule. Now, with the back pain becoming unbearable, his management has cleared out his schedule for a month so that the orange-haired star can recuperate. As a result, the release of a Japan album has been pushed back to May and product endorsements have been postponed.
Looks like the actor is finally getting his much needed rest. The actor/pop act had collapsed while shooting in Macau due to a gastric ulcer from lack of rest.

Music director defends Boys Before Flowers soundtrack

We’ve all griped (more or less) about the uber-cheesiness of the Boys Before Flowers soundtrack, and so have Korean viewers.
Complaints have mostly been leveled at the overuse of the songs, rather than the quality of the songs themselves. (In fact, the individual songs are enjoying great popularity on music charts, almost on par with the drama itself.)
But now the drama’s music director, Oh Joon-sung, is coming out to defend his work from detractors.
For the record, Oh Joon-sung has worked on the following dramas: sageuk King and I (which also starred Gu Hye-sun), Get Karl Oh Su-jung, long-running historical Jumong, That Woman is Scary — and yes, as we suspected, PD Jeon Ki-sang’s previous projects Witch Amusement and My Girl. Yes, I think his choices have been awful in many of these shows, but I still have to have respect for anyone who has built up a career like that. Not all series can have stellar soundtracks like Soulmate or Coffee Prince. And yet, I really, really wish someone else had gotten his job.
Oh defends his choices, saying that inasmuch as scriptwriter Kim Soo-hyun uses dialogue to express the emotions of the main characters, the drama also uses its imagery to express its emotions. Okay, point taken, although I would advise Mr. Oh to think twice about using writer Kim as an example of something done right.
He continues: “In cases where the scenes show the characters’ sadness, we increase the gravity of the music.” He particularly addresses Episodes 13 and 14, which included lots of location filming in Macau and portrays the split between characters Jun-pyo and Jan-di: “The intention was to convey their feelings more through the imagery than dialogue.”

Lee Min Ho to Undergo Surgery
Lee Minho, of current “Boys Over Flowers” fame, is to undergo surgery in May after production of the drama wraps up. His surgical procedure is to remove the rod that’s been placed in his right leg as a result of the car accident he was in in 2006. A representative has stated that the rod doesn’t affect his everyday life, but the surgery is something that Lee Minho and his parents have decided to take on.
The decision to have the operation in May has much to do with the “Boys Over Flowers” schedule. The drama is set to finish broadcasting by late March, and in April, the cast is going to promote heavily in Japan, where the drama is set to broadcast next.
In addition, Lee Minho’s representative has said that after undergoing surgery, Lee Minho has tentatively set aside a period to recover. However, this all depends on what he has lined up after “Boys Over Flowers” — if the next project he signs on to partake in is of particular importance, his post-op schedule may have to accommodate that of the project. At the moment, Lee Minho has been given at least 10 offers for roles.

Kim Hyun Joong: Highest Market Worth in F4
The correct answer is Kim HyunJoong. After the broadcast of ‘Boys Over Flowers’, Kim HyunJoong has been contracted for various CFs and promotional activities, adding up to about 40billion won, outshining the other F4 members. It was known that the other members have not even reached to half of Kim HyunJoong’s amount.
Kim HyunJoong’s company DSP Entertainment revealed that Kim HyunJoong received about 20 over modeling invitations from various commercial agencies. The company compiled the total to 40billion won, which only included contracts that were made after ‘Boys Over Flowers’ was broadcasted.
The confirmed contracts are cosmetic brand ‘TonyMoly’, male formal clothing brand ‘MVIO’, chicken franchise ‘Hotsun Chicken’, NongShim ‘AnSung Soup Noodle’, and ‘Anycall’ with all F4 members, etc. The endorsement fee for TonyMoly was 3billion won and besides this, he also engaged in various CFs and public events.
His company said “The total amount will still increase if we count the CFs which we are currently considering.” Japan cosmetic brand and multinational beverage brand and even some luxurious cosmetic brands also joined in ‘to get Kim HyunJoong’.
The company added “Because of the condition in the contract that everything should be kept secret, we are not able to reveal anything more.” Kim HyunJoong has already received a lot of attention in the commercial field during his appearance in MBC TV ‘Sunday Sunday Night’ popular section ‘We Got Married’, and his worth increased a notch after being in ‘Boys Over Flowers’. Even the items (that he models) are diverse, ranging from female cosmetics to cars to furniture.
Kim HyunJoong’s fans was encouraged “Now there will probably have a parody for ‘Kim HyunJoong’s one day’, at home where its decorated with ‘Kim HyunJoong brand’ furniture, you apply the cosmetic that Kim HyunJoong models for, drive the car to work, use Anycall handphones and eat Hotsun Chicken and AnSung Soup Noodles.”
His company said “In the later episodes, Kim HyunJoong’s role as Yoon JiHoo will have a more important relevance which will help him even more to rise his market worth.

Lee Min Ho's Childhood Story Part 4
This part 4 talks mainly about Lee Min Ho’s high school period and his first step to becoming an actor. We are now getting closer to the current Lee Min Ho.
(Description from Lee Min Ho’s mum)
Lee Min Ho (16 to 19 years old)
The apartment that we are residing in now is in fact provided by Min Ho. After Min Ho signed the contract with his current management agency, he immediately gave us the entire portion as the rental deposit for the new apartment.
Min Ho is just such an affectionate child. He became a part-time model for a fashion magazine after he entered high school, with a daily salary of 50000 won. Every time he received his pay, he would always buy some presents for his sister and mom.
Although neither was there any surprise, nor was there any touching words mentioned, he would often place a stalk of rose on the dining table without detection or put the cosmetic stuff that he had bought sneakily on my dressing table. If he saw me eating my meal alone, he would then say “Mom, why do you eat alone? Come on, let’s eat together”, and chat with me while eating.
During his second year in high school, he started to realize his dream of becoming an actor. Within the next few years, he underwent trainings as well as participated in several projects such as “Secret Campus” (2006), “Mackerel Run” (2007) and “My School E.T” (2008), and began his first step to become an actor.
It was a huge commotion in our neighbourhood when Min Ho first appeared in “Secret Campus”. Relatives and friends were all very concerned about him. They often discussed “who is that handsome actor?”, “after being a trainee for such a long time, Min Ho is finally on TV!”, etc.The first time Min Ho appeared on the fashion magazine as the main model, he bought several copies of that issue back and shared it with his friends and neighbours.

Lee Min Ho's Childhood Story Part 3
This is the third part of Lee Min Ho’s childhood story which focuses on his 10 to 15 years old period. It talks about Lee Min Ho’s elementary and middle school period and his eventual step into the entertainment circle.
(Description from Lee Min Ho’s mum)
Lee Min Ho (10 to 15 years old)
After Min Ho entered elementary school, videos and computer games were his only focus. If I did not reprimand him, he would be thinking of playing games all day long. Min Ho’s dad played the kind role, while I had no choice but to be the strict mum.
Min Ho is thrifty. Although our family was not wealthy, we tried our best not to disappoint our children and gave them about 100 thousand won as pocket money each time. Min Ho didn’t spend every single cent away. Instead, he deposited them into his savings account. Due to his inward personality, he would sometimes give carnations during Parents’ Day and disappear immediately after saying “Mom, please wear it”.
After learning soccer from coach Cha Bum Kun, Min Ho’s physique improved all of a sudden. His sports (lesson) was often an “A”. His mathematics was also kept consistently above 90 marks. During his first and second year in the middle school, his height increased at an astounding rate. In fact, he isn’t much taller now compared to then.
During his elementary education, the thought of becoming an actor one day didn’t even crossed his mind but after he was promoted to the middle school, he was often approached by star scouts. Those managers would often say: “Please come to find me if you wish to be an artiste.” As such, Min Ho received a lot of name cards. In the beginning, we shrugged the idea off as we thought he did not have the qualities to be one.
However, as the number of such occurrences increased, Min Ho also started to go for auditions and meet some managers. When he returned home, he would put it simply: “Mom, I went for an audition today. It was very interesting.” His began to harbor the dream of becoming an actor.
During his middle and high school, he liked Sol Kyung Gu and Kim Soo Roh respectively and often mentioned that he wanted to become actors like them.
According to rumours, Kim Soo Roh gave his mother an apple crate full of 10000 won notes after he became famous. Min Ho then often said to us: “If I’m able to rise in popularity in the entertainment circle, I will give dad and mom an even more precious gift.”

Lee Min Ho's Childhood Story Part 2
This is a continuation of the previous article on Lee Min Ho’s childhood where his mother narrates on the interesting events and little details about Lee Min Ho when he was young. Pretty interesting I think. This second part will have the timeline set at 5 to 9 years old and also contained Min Ho’s missing act when he was five. And by the way, are you able to spot young Lee Min Ho from the photo above?
(Description from Lee Min Ho’s mom)
Lee Min Ho ( 5 to 9 years old)
Min Ho loved to read the newspaper. He first started learning Hangul from the colourful advertisements printed on the newspapers.
Min Ho who was enthusiastic towards reading newspaper, cultivated a habit to read the commentary articles on the children newspaper and daily papers when he entered elementary school. He could do addition and subtraction very fast and had a very good memory. Even the multiplication table and Hanja didn’t trouble him at all.
During his lower elementary school stage, he was shy child that didn’t like to stand in front of everyone. Despite this, he enjoyed a high popularity and had acquainted many friends. Since kindergarten, Min Ho has been very popular among girls.
Compared to other children of the same age, Min Ho was always half a head taller than them. Even when placed beside children with fair features, Min Ho’s appearance was still very prominent and stood out among them. Whenever the season changes, the little girls who played with Min Ho will also change accordingly. There were even fights among them because some girls wanted to gain exclusiveness to Min Ho.
After learning Taekwondo, his body became muscular. Nobody in the school dared to pick a fight with him. Min Ho once harbor the aim to be a famous soccer player. He had played four years of soccer under coach Cha Bum Kun’s Youth soccer team. With this as a basis, Min Ho who was previously weaker gradually became a sports athlete. He also met a lot of new friends, which eventually shaped his positive attitude personality.
When he was five, Min Ho nearly became a lost child. Even till now, discussions on “whether little Min Ho is scared at that time”, are still a common topic among the family members. It was only a short moment before Min Ho roamed around the playground and eventually went missing. Luckily, there was a little tag on his wrist that wrote his house address and his name. The citizens around that area sent him back home. Till now, the incident still sends a shiver down my spine whenever I thought of it.

A Walkthrough on Lee Min Ho's Childhood
Young Lee Min Ho (0 - 4 years old)
(From Lee Min Ho’s mom)I had a dream when I was bearing Min Ho, the dream scene is a plateau of chilli ground. Although the hospital did not gave me the sex of my child, but since having that dream, I was confident that it should be a son. I don’t normally like to eat meat, but for some strange reasons, I liked it alot during my pregnancy period. I ate beef every four days and now Lee Min Ho’s favourite dish is chilli with beef.
Min Ho was 3.2kg when he was born, a little lighter than the average newborn babies. His health was toward the weaker side from young till his elementary school stage. His Bronchus had some problems, therefore he is prone to cold whenever the season changes. And also, no matter how much food he ate, he just couldn’t get fat. I’m of blood type A, his body and personalities are very similar to me.
He doesn’t eat alot, nutritional tonics were given to him almost every season. We gave him a lot of food just like what others did to their child but he just can’t grow fat. He was always very shy with strangers and very sensitive. Therefore, I always had to carry him around and coax him.
Min Ho is especially beautiful when young. His eyes were bigger than his elder sister, his nose was high as well. The earliest signs showing his talent of being an actor was during young, due of his eloquence. Although his sister is fluent in her speech, Min Ho had learned to talk much earlier. When he was still in his infancy stage, he could quickly detect moving objects. The very first time he called “mom” was also about 3 to 4 months faster than an average child.
(Rest of the article will only be out in the next few days)
Now let us look at the photo walkthough of Lee Min Ho.
Lee Min Ho’s Photo Walkthrough With Descriptions
One year old birthday
Lee Min Ho is only slightly taller than the average child when he was young. He isn’t really very tall. But as he grew up, he became much taller. His physique became better as well. This photo was taken at a banquet hall in Seoul. Young Min Ho who was only one year old at that time, was not interested in any of the food placed on the table. Instead, he wanted a mouthful of cola-flavoured ice-cream which his sister was eating that time.
When he was young, we all called Min Ho “sudden blink”. The main reason was because due to his large eyes, it was very cute when his eyes blink continuously. Before Christmas, “little Min Ho” sat on the bed.
Five years old, waiting to eat the cake that his father had brought, with his sister
Min Ho had a very good relationship with his sister. The number of arguments they had were really countable. This day, they posed on the table with the cake that their father had bought.
Six years old, tour to Chung Pyung with family
As with his role in “Boys Before Flowers”, Lee Min Ho in real life doesn’t know how to swim either. He was very timid during young and everytime, the whole family has to encourage and coax him, before he will play in the water. Only after several assurance from his mom and sister did young Lee Min Ho decided to play in the water, but with his life-jacket and sunglasses on.
Seven years old, birthday at kindergarden
Min Ho is very shy, I had never dreamt of him becoming an actor one day. Even the song that he sang during his kindergarden birthday party was also after several practice at home with mom. Even though Min Ho was very shy when he was young, but he met plenty of friends when he progressed to middle school. He became more extrovert from then on.
Nine years old, grade 2, camping behind the school compound
During his elementary education, Min Ho learned soccer and started to like mountain climbing and playing around in the fields. During summer, he liked to catch insects.
Eighteen years old, high school graduation ceremony
Beginning from middle school stage, Min Ho is already very handsome and also enjoyed a high popularity among guy and girl friends. Even his sister’s friends called him “yun kyung’s ‘pretty boy’ brother”. He began his acting career when he was in his second year in high school. Although his looks is roughly the same as now, but he had pimples popping out as and when during that period.

Kim So Eun Absolved from Blame

It has been revealed that the problem caused by Kim So Eun's late arrival for filming has been solved amicably between Group Eight and SidusHQ. Kim So Eun was scheduled for filming at the Hyatt hotel on the 18th starting at 2pm. But she only arrived 4 hours later at 6pm, which caused a lot of trouble as filming only started at around 7 and lasted past midnight.
Group Eight expressed, "70 extras and 100 staff - this was a big film scene. The costs of renting the location, providing the food and flowers etc, was also a serious figure," and indicated yesterday that they would seek legal action against Kim So Eun's company.
Luckily for all involved, it was announced today that the problem between the production company and Kim So Eun's company had been resolved amicably yesterday. Kim So Eun's company representative said, "We had already asked for leave beforehand, but the CF shooting took longer than expected. Thankfully, we expressed how sorry we were when we arrived at the film set, and the director also accepted our apologies with a smile."
Kim So Eun's company representative added, "Before this, we have never been late once. Even if we had to cancel our other appointments, we already tried out best to not cause any inconvenience to the filming of Boys Over Flowers", and explained, "We actually started the CF filming at 4 - 5 am on the 18th. However, because the CF filming location was very far from the Boys Before Flowers film set, and also because of heavy traffic, we were late to the location for the film shoot. We are very sorry for the trouble caused to the drama filming. In the future, we will work hard to not repeat this mistake again."
Conflicts like this between production and management companies aren't new but most of them are usually just swept under the carpet. The case of Kim So Eun being highlighted and taken to task was perhaps a result of the drama and So Eun's high popularity.
According to a tv analyst, this is a problem that is unique to the drama industry in Korea. "Dramas are filmed concurrently with the tv broadcast. Usually, episodes that are shown next week will be filmed 1 - 2 weeks beforehand. As an actor, if they don't film CFs, etc during this period when their dramas are airing, they will miss out on lucrative opportunities and the exposure. So even at the expense of a drama, management agencies usually put CF shoots as a priority above drama filming and that's where conflicts in schedule start occuring."
Glad that everything has been resolved. It wouldn't be right for Kim So Eun to be blamed totally because she was just following her company's instructions. Hope that she can learn something here and gain some experience from this. But it's inevitable that her image has taken a hit. Let's hope her scenes with Kim Bum in Boys Before Flowers remain intact.

Hyun Joong is Hurting

It was reported today that Kim Hyun Joong is suffering from severe back pain at the moment which he sustained in a car accident late last month. While on his way to the Boys Before Flowers Sinchon film set on 21st January, the van that Hyun Joong was in had collided with another vehicle at the Gwanghwamun intersection near Cheonggyecheon.
Although it was reported then that Hyun Joong was merely startled with no significant injuries, it was now revealed that Hyun Joong had in fact felt some pain in his back. Doctors at the local medical facility had advised Hyun Joong to be warded for treatment but because of the tight filming schedule for Boys Before Flowers, DSP Entertainment had no choice but to push the treatment period to the end of March, until filming for the drama concludes.

A DSP Entertainment representative expressed, "Hyun Joong's back isn't in the best condition right now. All his activities will be stopped after filming ends. He will then undergo a full month of treatment. SS501 plans for an album release this April in Japan will now be pushed back to May instead. Hyun Joong has commercials waiting to be filmed after Boys Before Flowers ends in late March but we will be adjusting his schedule to make sure he gets sufficient rest."
Meanwhile, reports of Kim Hyun Joong fainting due to fatique yesterday has been dismissed by DSP Entertainment as exaggeration by the media. Their explanation was that Hyun Joong was supposed to be filming a commercial yesterday but it was shelved due to changes in schedule, so he was able to rest for that day. But the media overreacted.
